Domestic and Sexual Violence Support with Lawson Craighill

Thrive Virginia uses person-centered and collaborative services to empower those fighting poverty to achieve individualized prosperity and community connections.Lawson Craighill works with kids and teens who've experienced domestic and/or sexual violence as one of Thrive's child counselors. She decided to pursue her master's in clinical mental health counseling after working in a shelter in D.C. and seeing not only the need for support, but the lack of accessible services. The fact that Thrive has built their entire Domestic Violence & Sexual Violence program around equality and accessibility was originally one of the things that drew her to the organization. Today we discussed the impacts of trauma on developing brains, how social media is impacting mental health and the potential for health problems to be at a higher risk based on higher ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Scores.
