from Redefining Wealth with Patrice Washington · host Patrice Washington

Dominique Brown is an entrepreneur and credit expert. He is the author of How to Fix Your Credit and the owner of the YFS Academy and Your Finances Simplified. He helps individuals and small businesses overcome their financial roadblocks that are preventing them from financial freedom. His motto is finances can be fun, and he makes everything fun. He believes becoming rich is a lifestyle choice. Episode Summary: April is financial literacy month, and this is the last episode in the confident money series. I'm so excited to have Dominique Brown on the show today. He is incredibly brilliant and yet super down-to-earth. He and I are in a mastermind together where he shares all kinds of tips about finances, business, and money. In this episode, Dominique shares his story and how budgeting doesn’t have to be deprivation, but how important it is to have a plan to work towards your goal. We also talk about credit repair and more amazing financial information. CLIFF NOTES Get educated about money and finances, because you can’t help yourself or others without that education.   Have a spending plan or a budget. Write down what you want to accomplish and then plan for that. Dominique talked about fixing credit with people and then moved on with financial planning and investing. Don’t listen to credit myths like you can’t fix your credit on your own, changes happen instantly, and taking on more loans improves your score. To fix your credit, create a specific goal like buying a home and then meet the goals to improve your score for that purpose. Write down everything that is coming in and going out. Then pull your credit report and analyze what is negative. It’s not always about deprivation, sometimes you just need to earn more money. Quotes from the show: “When you have a child it changes everything. It changes how you think, how you wake up, and what you are motivated for.” - Dominique Brown “The only way out of the mess for me was to get educated.” - Dominique Brown “A family without a spending plan is a family without a plan.” - Dominique Brown “People budget every day, they just don't write it down.” - Dominique Brown “You have to meet people where they are.” - Dominique Brown “Your credit score is a byproduct of your financial behavior.” - Dominique Brown “Try your best and forget the rest.” - Dominique Brown “The more specific you are about your goal and your use of credit the easier it is to get on track and stay there.” - Dominique Brown “Credit problems typically happen from behavior.” - Dominique Brown “You're not going to reach your goals by not starting.” - Dominique Brown “Do you really want to win or do you want to look good losing?” - Dominique Brown “I'm a huge fan of always walking towards something or striving for something whether it's paying off a debt or having a goal.” - Dominique Brown “We all need to be well-versed about our money.” - Patrice Washington “The foundation of money is taking personal responsibility.” - Patrice Washington “The biggest fear for most people is just facing whatever it is.” - Patrice Washington “If you're aware and disciplined, you don't have to go the route of deprivation when it comes to finances” - Patrice Washington Dominique’s Redefining Wealth Rapid Wisdom Questions Define Success: Success to me is waking up everyday with a sense of purpose.
