在現實的世間中，精神與行動必需相應，兩者能夠配合並且切實執行，才能獲得實際的成效，純粹的唯心論或唯物論，都是脫節於現實之外的哲學想法。唯心論者只論發心，唯物論者只論行為，不論動機或行為，若我們仔細體會，便可以了解這兩種極端的想法與做法，都不會為世間帶來更多的光明與利益。佛教的核心教育是緣起法及四聖諦，是切合世間現實與解決問題的有效方式，在有限的生命中，若能了解 釋迦牟尼 世尊的領悟與教導，良善的人，可以發心，也能在自己能力範圍中去做自己能做及可做的利人之事。
