Don't Be So Distracted by the Corruption That You Miss the Bigger Problem

from Walter Rhein Podcast · host Walter Rhein

This morning as I was scrolling through the news, I noticed how every story felt like a distraction. All the headlines were the same, “Breaking news” or “Holy s**t!” followed by yet another tale of corruption.I kept passing my thumb across the screen and it was the same thing over and over and over.Corruption!Corruption!Corruption! It almost made me want to stop and laugh at the futility of it all. At this point, everybody knows that this administration is corrupt. That’s hardly anything you could call “Breaking news.” Every story suggests that this will be the final straw that breaks the camel’s back. We’re all being played based on our insatiable addiction to a hope for justice. But friends, it’s not coming.I set down my phone and began to reflect on what actually needs to happen. It occurred to me that we’re like frantic accountants who are so fixated on saving every penny that we overlook the expenses that are costing us billions of dollars. Is that metaphor clear? I’m saying that, at this point, the corruption is the pennies. We know that rich people are abusing and exploiting us. We know there is corruption at every level of our government. We know the media is complicit. We know the whole thing has to go.But all these “CORRUPTION!” stories are stuck in the past. They’re still part of a false system of abuse followed by love bombing in which people hope for some little crumb of justice to keep them satisfied while they endure the next decade of getting pummeled. At some point, somebody is going to end up being the sacrificial lamb for the Epstein scandal. Across the pond, Prince Andrew is feeling the heat. They’ve picked the guy they’re willing to give up on, and Andrew is a good choice because nobody likes him and he’s totally worthless anyway. What the rest of us have to remember is that we can’t stop when it comes to our Andrew, whoever that turns out to be. We have to keep pushing.Every single time Prince Harry, or Meghan Markle, or Prince William get to a podium, they should have to face questions about Andrew’s relationship to Epstein. Every single time. They should either be 100% committed to using their wealth and privilege to end the scourge of child rape in our world, or they should have that wealth and privilege taken away. That’s the mindset we all need to adopt. We can no longer afford to be satisfied on an incomplete effort that ultimately helps the most horrific abusers in human history. All the bad people are trying to pivot to reinvent themselves as champions of justice. We can’t let them. Meanwhile, they’ll be perfectly happy to sacrifice one high-profile criminal so they can slide into the power vacuum. They’ll look for a candidate who is an elderly, lame-duck politician with clear signs of dementia. That’s the kind of individual you can easily sacrifice without significantly harming the infrastructure of oppression. We have to keep our eyes open for this.We have to go after all the enablers of injustice, not just one or two peak offenders. This means that we can’t afford to trust any of the recognizable names that are suddenly trying to reinvent themselves in this era of chaos. Instead, we have to flush the current crop and start over with a new class that hasn’t yet been exposed to the corruption virus.Establishment Democrats like to say that “there is no perfect candidate” or that “nobody can pass a purity test.” They say this so often, and they’re so hostile to anyone who challenges these claims, that even otherwise good people are inclined to repeat it.But if we’re really going to be champions of justice, we have to overcome our conditioning to reject purity. It doesn’t make any sense for Democrats to say “Our candidate is better because he’s only facing 30 accusations of sexual misconduct while his opponent has 100.” The simple fact is that there are candidates out there without any credible accusations of corruption. Those candidates exist. The problem is that we’ve all been coerced into enabling a system where only corrupt people stand a chance of leading. That’s the bigger problem. That’s where we have to put our attention. We know the whole system is corrupt. With the exception of one or two candidates, everybody in office needs to be primaried. Reform the government and see what happens. It can’t be worse. We can’t afford to allow people inherit power who have been exposed to corruption. That means all the familiar faces need to retire. I’m talking about media personalities, film directors, politicians, journalists, they all have to retire and make way for a new generation of voices. We need to be deliberate in elevating the platforms of people with a new philosophy. We can’t allow ourselves to endure the same old corruption with a new face. It’s absurd that so many people insist we shouldn’t demand purity. Why the hell not? We’re talking about handing over power to improve or end our lives. I want the person inheriting that power to be pure. What’s wrong with saying that?I recently had somebody try to reframe this nonsensical narrative by calling it an “ideological” purity test. He went on to say that we shouldn’t demand politicians who are actively anti-racist.I strongly disagree. I do demand politicians who are actively anti-racist. I also demand politicians who are actively anti-corruption. I demand politicians who are actively anti-child rape. The suggestion that we must accept a candidate who agrees with us but refuses to do anything to improve our lives is absolutely absurd. We should recognize it’s a win that people are already changing the narrative from “purity” to “ideological purity” but we have to remain on guard. The fact is the new framing of the false propaganda is no less absurd than the original concept. The ultimate takeaway is that we can’t allow the forces of corruption to pressure us to be content with one sacrificial lamb. Our work doesn’t end until the entire structure of injustice is pulled up by the roots and destroyed. All the “breaking news” stories about corruption are important because they provide evidence as to who the true culprits are.But we can’t allow the same corrupt entities that control the media also tell us how to interpret the facts. It’s time to elect the leaders we deserve. The only thing the old guard has is experience with letting evil off the hook. We have to work to ensure people of integrity are installed at every level of government, and then we have to be vigilant to ensure they remain resistant to any new strain of corruption. You all make this newsletter happen!
