Don't Become What You Hate

One of the first songs I wrote after the September 11th tragedy. DON’T BECOME WHAT YOU HATE Hate Crimes Blowing up like land mines But on American soil Perpetrated by people who dare to wave The stars and stripes Follow the truth not the hype Tearing the scarves off the heads Of pious Muslim women To me, that’s kind of scary Especially when they dress like Mary Hmmm, you better show some respect And if not, you better take that cross off your neck The age of hypocrisy must end Then-and only then can we transcend To a level we must achieve I Know We Can’t Forget That Date... But Don’t Become What You Hate! x2 What’s going on? What’s the real mission? Can’t see clear with your tele-vision Unplug from the mental paralysis Time for reflection and clear analysis In an ocean of ignorance We all drown Time for humility Heads bowed down “In God We Trust” Please prove it A phrase you can’t back up, don’t use it “In God We Trust” on the dollar But abused by political scholars Bombing Afghanistan and fighting the Taliban Like there ‘aint nothing to it Even though they said they didn’t do it “Don’t you know the word Islam Means “Peace”? So open your heart Open your heart and let the love release And let the Love release! I Know We Can’t Forget That Date... But Don’t Become What You Hate! x4 -by Aaron Haroon Sellars aka, Son of Adam
