Don’t Call Me Terra, My Name is Terricina

from The Sacred Space · host The Sacred Space

Last night I realized I have been shrinking myself, dimming my light and accommodating people for my entire life for so many reasons but one stood out and snatched my ass up. My name is Terricina L. Jackson however people never knew how to pronounce my name. I was given the nickname “Terra” to accommodate people who refused to take the time out to learn my name let alone me. It dawned on me that it sent a very detrimental message to my child self. I remember knowing exactly where my name fell on the attendance list to prevent people from saying my name incorrect I’d raise my hand and say, “Terra Jackson” because the shame was unbearable. Hmmmm I can still feel what that felt like. It made me feel like I had to adjust myself so that other people were okay despite how it made me feel. Terra was a character created for other people’s approval as a child. That behavior spilled over into my adulthood. Last night, I vomited up that yuck literally and figuratively. Today, I reclaimed my power. Don’t call me “Terra” my name is Terricina. Can you relate? All new podcast this evening at 6pm est. Let’s talk about it!!! How has your childhood influenced your journey? Parenting the Parentless Child on “The Sacred Space.”
