Send us Fan MailDon’t celebrate people getting the bad they deserve. (Advent 13)“Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem” - from Isaiah 40:1-2The people of Jerusalem were in a very bad situation. Worse, they, themselves were largely responsible for the hardship they were enduring. Their own actions had led to these horrible consequences. Notice how much different the prophet’s reaction is from many of ours. Instead of celebrating their destruction or gloating about being right about his warnings, the prophet offered encouragement and hope. We don’t need to kick people when they are down. We don’t celebrate anyone’s hardship or suffering even if it’s well earned. We find our deepest humanity when we allow ourselves to weep for our enemies’ pain. In their deepest night, we offer the light of our candles to illuminate a different path. With tenderness, kindness, and compassion we proclaim the possibility of a different future for themselves and our world.I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.#60secondsofhope Support the show
