Yo guys, what's going on? It's Timmy Ham, AKA Sloth, back with another daily short, designer illustrator, creative dude. It is Monday, it's December 18th. It's a week away from Christmas.
So crazy. And my Christmas list is so short. I feel like as you get older, everything that I want costs so much money. So it's like, no one's going to buy it for me, right?
And plus, I guess I'm more concerned about buying things for my kids and letting them have such a fun experience. Anyways, guys, let's get into this. Last week was crazy. Traveling, didn't have service in a lot of places I was, so I was unable to upload a podcast.
This week is going to be awesome. It's going to be strong. I'm super pumped. Got a lot of fun content for you guys.
This morning, I was reading something from this guy I follow on Instagram. You guys may have heard of him. His name is Rory Kramer. Super cool dude.
I relate with him super on so many levels. And he posted something that I thought it'd be perfect to talk about. I'm going to read it and then we can kind of like dive in. If you guys have any comments, drop a comment, call in, tweet me, IG me, whatever.
I'd love to hear you guys' thoughts on this. So this is what Rory said. You got to spend money to make money. Being cheap will have people not taking you serious.
Don't cut corners. The money in your pocket can technically go to your grave, but that's a waste. Sink it all into your dreams, not your cars, houses, or materialistic things. Bet it on what you believe in and when you're dead and gone, let that investment inspire those who are in your shoes now.
And I was like, I read that and I'm like, yo, heck yes. That's like the realest thing I've heard all day. And honestly, I've heard a lot of different things like this before. You know, everyone kind of like sort of says the same things to inspire people.
But I feel like this was kind of a different angle and some of the stuff I never seen written like this or said like this. So I really liked it. And I related with this hardcore. And sometimes I feel like I'm doing things wrong because I do what Rory said a lot of the times.
And it's totally against the traditional system of what to do with your money. And I think Rory is a spot on on this. You know, I don't think what he's saying is that we should be frivolous and and not wise with our money. I just think he's saying when we spend money, spend it on things that matter to us, you know, what are your dreams and what you want to do in life.
And don't spend it on things that aren't going to last past your death, basically. I mean, for me, it's like all I do, like I spend like I just bought a new computer. I bought a camera not that long ago. I'm not like wasting my spending all my money and then my family doesn't have any money left.
Like I'm definitely smart with my money and spend it when I can. But when I spend it, it's on things that are going to advance, you know, what I want to do in life in general. And I don't I do and I am a sucker for shoes. I'm not gonna lie.
I buy shoes. No, I'm not addicted to buying shoes, but I do kind of have a lot of shoes. I like shoes. Let's say it's bad to have like one thing that you're like really into that you buy this materialistic.
But for the most part, I agree with this 100%. I think more of us should do this. I think it's totally easy for us to get caught up in what we've been taught and you know, the system to where we spend our money and how we spend it. And a lot of the times I think people are wondering like, how did, you know, like for me at least, like how you're traveling, you're doing these art projects, you're doing all this cool stuff, like how are you doing it?
And it's like, well, some of the things that I get paid for and other times it's an investment in myself for my career. And I'm spending money to go travel to this place to do an epic art project. And to me, that's more worth it than buying and going out eating every single night. Because it's so easy to get caught up in seeing all these other material things that everyone has.
And I'm guilty of it. I'm sure everyone else is guilty of it. Of seeing those things and thinking like all of a sudden thinking you need it, you know? And that's like never the case.
It's never the case. And so I think spending and investing in yourself in areas that you are super passionate about is 100% the way to go and not saving money for things that are just pointless. You know, like, do you really need to upgrade your car every year? Probably not.
Like here's an example too of a time when I spent money to make money. There's been a couple of times where I'll literally, there's things that I want to do with art and content and I want to get bigger brand deals. So there's been times the past years where I've literally spent a few grand and went on a trip and did exactly what I would do as if I was doing it for a brand, but I did it for myself. And that in turn, those little investments that I've done have paid off tenfold.
Like now I've acted like I just got a sponsorship thing, a four video sponsorship thing from Squarespace. Just got something from DJI not that long ago. That's why I was at the dunes. And so like those investments in myself into my passion, like pay off crazy amount, like so, so well.
And so if I could encourage you guys, when you get money, don't just waste it on those material things that you think you need that, like our society is telling us that, you know, you need to do X, Y, and Z. You need to have a super awesome house. You need to have a super awesome car. You need to have a super awesome, you know, TV and couch.
All those things are nice. And I'm not saying you don't spend that on it, but don't let that be the first thing you drop your money on. Think about how you can better the world and how you can inspire others around you and invest in that. I think that's way more valuable.
And I think it'll last a lot longer. Like I said, I'm not really saying that we shouldn't buy fun things because I do every now and then. And I think it's good. Like, I think it's fun.
And obviously it helps our economy. Like those are good things, but I'm just saying, I don't think it should be the first thing you do. You know, drop it on something that means something, something meaningful, something that has substance and something that is going to live longer than a month, you know, because how many times have you bought something and I'm victim of this too. And you use it for a couple of days or a week and then it literally sits there and collects dust and you never use it again.
That happens all the time. Same with clothes. Like you'll go out and you'll just buy a shirt because you like it. And then all of a sudden you wear it once and it's gone.
Like just buy things that you truly love and love, love. Don't buy things off the whim, um, sporadically buying things and invest in fun, cool projects. Like if you have a crazy idea and it's going to cost $800, but you think it's gonna be so crazy cool. But you're like, but it's not anything tangible.
But the experience and you know, a video of you doing it a hundred percent do it like go for it. Um, it doesn't always have to be something. You don't always have to spend your money on something material that you can like hold or use, you know, it can be a trip and a trip that you're doing a product on or something creative. Anyways, guys, I could talk on this forever.
Hopefully this was kind of cool for you guys. Um, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say. Um, I hope everyone's having a good Monday. I hope everyone has a good week and finish this year strong.
I'm out guys. Peace. Follow your bliss.
