Don't Forget to Celebrate the Small Wins as a Female Founder with Linda Cheung & Sawaan Logan
from Female Founder Unplugged · host Lindsay White
On today’s episode, I have the privilege of sitting down and speaking with not one, but two passionate and inspiring female founders - Linda and Saawan of North Water. Proud immigrants to Canada, they found each other 12 years ago. In their travels across the world, and to the Rocky Mountains, they noticed that there was a large amount of garbage and plastic bottles wherever they went – and it inspired them to leave their established careers to take action. Their purpose is truly inspiring, and it goes to show how passionate they are to dive in, and make something happen. That doesn’t mean that decision, or their path, has been an easy one! North Water started March 1st, 2020 – and 15 days later there was a province-wide lockdown as a global pandemic swept swiftly into Canada. Nobody could have foreseen the world shutting down and starting a new business during a pandemic has proven to be challenging.Linda and Saawan’s practical advice is to:- Surround yourself with a high-performing team, with people you can trust that have the entrepreneurial spirit. You will always make mistakes, but your team helps you get through everything a little bit faster. They make the challenges easier to tackle. It’s the people that make the magic happen.- Find a confidant you can share the journey with, a solid support network.- Remind yourself that your mental health is so important; you need to take care of yourself.- Celebrate the small wins! Be grateful, and put your energy behind the small wins, so you can get after the big ones ahead.- Believe in yourself and, more importantly, be your true authentic self.- Don’t lose sight of your vision, your goal.North Water is local, glacier water from the Rockies. Our Canadian glaciers are clean and pristine, giving us the best water in the world. The bottles are made without plastic, from infinitely recyclable aluminum. Aluminum can be recycled many different times without losing its integrity and doesn’t have to be recycled and made into a new bottle – it can be reused as many different things, making it an incredible sustainable option!
