Down the stairs of humility by Kai-Anne Clews
from Original Christian Poetry · host Kai-Anne Clews
My Mary let these hands be yours, Joyfully place them to do some chores. My Mary help me sow good feeling, That comes after some humble cleaning. My Mother Mary teach me what all to do, To mop or brush or sweep or sew. My mother taught me these things blossom much love, In the bosom of the Heart of God above. Set me please humble tasks - Keep me praising throughout - Then I will glimpse sweet eternities font, and I will be in no more doubt. That I belong to my Creator, and He delights when I do good - That He'll take me sooner or later, and I praise Him like I should. I may praise as a faithful daughter, Even with my hands in dish water. I may humbly hum a homily or hymn, In the dirt of the garden, as I contemplate Him. I am unoffensive to the angels when I am engaged in cleaning, Like celestial chimney-sweeps are they to me, this great gift revealing. As our beloved Jesus did observe, It is far greater to serve, than to be one who is served. So my Mary, let these hands be yours, Teach me the virtue of some humble chores... Oh my Mary, Thank you Lady, You are revealing to me at last, The heights of Heaven, can be attained through humility's downward path.
