Dr. Benjamin Doolittle - Healing Beyond the Stethoscope: Bridging Western Medicine, Spirituality and Faith

from going out | looking in · host Maximilian Bartel

"Medicine is easy and everything else is hard." Dear podcast family, I sincerely hope this episode finds you well, wherever you are in the world during these challenging times. I am honored to share today's episode with you as I explore a slightly new territory. I had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Benjamin Doolittle from Yale University. Ben serves as the Program Director of the Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program and is also the Medical Director of the Faculty-Resident Continuity Clinic. His practice focuses on addiction, Hepatitis C, HIV, and primary care, while his research interests delve into the intersection of medicine and spirituality, wellness, and burnout. Ben is also an ordained minister, holding an MDIV from Yale Divinity School, and he serves a local urban congregation. My intention with this conversation was to shed light on the topic of healing from a more scientific angle. I am genuinely curious to discover what prominent figures in the scientific community, such as those at Yale and Stanford, have to say about the benefits of a spiritual life, belief in something larger than ourselves, and other insights into human wellbeing, happiness, and fulfillment. Additionally, I am grateful to share that Ben has invited me to speak at Yale in March next year, which is something I am still wrapping my head around. Grateful for this life and for all of you. Thank you! 👉 We explored a broad variety of topics such as: - The signficance and power of prayer - Renaissance Journal and Conversations - The struggles of modern day physicians and Western medicine - The importance of the relationship between the medicine and the patient - Scientific spirituality - Pros and cons of organized religion - Why and how faith can contribute to a rich life - How to combine ancient wisdom with modern science 🎧 PODCAST: ▶️ Website ▶️ Spotify ▶️ Apple Podcasts ▶️ Google Podcasts ▶️ Amazon Podcasts 🔗 MY GUEST: ▶️ Yale Profile ▶️ Ben's interview with Sadhguru 🙋‍♂️ MY STUFF: ▶️ Website ▶️ My creative agency ▶️ Instagram ▶️ LinkedIn ▶️ Michael Singer Weekly Talks ▶️ Micheal Singer Podcast ▶️ Waking Up App (free month) ▶️ My book recommendations 📩 CONTACT: [email protected]
