Dr Drew, former Head of Walsall Manor’s paediatric department, was sacked while adhering to the Trust's child protection policy. Treating whistleblowers in this way encourages child protection omertà stemming from fear of being wrong or being branded a troublemaker, or fear of retribution. As a result, many hospitals and similar 'Regulated Activities' have become high risk settings for children and vulnerable adults. The current 'safeguarding' framework fails to protect anyone, including good staff.
