Today's Radio guest is Dr. James Gilligan, a world-renowned psychiatrist who has been on the faculty of New York University since 2002. In his teaching and his prolific writing, Dr. Gilligan thoroughly explores how to understand and treat individuals who have committed serious acts of violence; and leads seminars on the biological, psychological and social causes and prevention of violence, in the Law School and the School of Arts and Science. Dr. Gilligan has served as a consultant on violent crime and punishment, including war crimes, throughout the United States and around the world to many individuals and groups. In December 2011, his book Why Some Politicians Are More Dangerous Than Others was selected by the Times Literary Supplement as a “Book of the Year.” In this interview, Jim and Mitchell will discuss sources of violence and what is the correlation between its increase or decrease in respect to political party and from this point of view alone, why it may matter significantly who wins the Presidency.
