Dr. Lorien Pratt | Decision architecture and why context is so important | Episode #25

from The Only Constant · host Lasse Rindom

In this episode of The Only Constant, Lasse Rindom speaks with Dr. Lorien Pratt about the transformative power of decision intelligence and the critical role of integrating human insights with advanced technology. Dr. Pratt, a pioneer in the field, discuss the nuances of making data-driven decisions while acknowledging the irreplaceable human element in tech projects. In this conversation, you will gain insights into:  How decision intelligence combines data, AI, and historical lessons to create optimized decision-making processes, making technology and human insights work hand in hand.  Why many AI and data projects fail due to the neglect of human psychology and historical context, and how a human-centric approach is crucial for the success of these initiatives.  The limitations of AI in addressing global, interdependent issues like climate change and poverty, and why human cognition remains vital in these areas. The concept of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) and how decision intelligence can help manage and mitigate the challenges of an unpredictable world.   Do you want to learn more about Dr. Lorien Pratt?  Computer scientist Dr. Lorien Pratt is one of the pioneers of artificial intelligence and is credited with inventing transfer learning.  Following a 40-year career delivering applied AI systems, along with leadership and program committee responsibilities at the industry-leading NeurIPS conference, Pratt is recognized alongside Marie Curie and others by the Women Innovators and Inventors Project. Today, Pratt is chief scientist at www.quantellia.com, where she continues to push the boundaries of technology as a creator of and evangelist for Decision Intelligence (DI) and through building Large Language Models (LLMs) integrated with DI and ML. DI is now predicted to grow to a $50.1B market by 2030 and there are two master’s programs in DI offered by universities, with more expected in coming years. Pratt’s The Decision Intelligence Handbook (O’Reilly, 2023) is receiving worldwide attention. Pratt is also cofounder of OpenDI. DI connects AI to human decision making in a way that is transparent, auditable, and accessible, bringing this important technology to the masses, and reducing information inequality and technology power disparities.
