Dr. Megan Delaney - Nature is Nurture: Therapy in Collaboration with the Natural World

from going out | looking in · host Maximilian Bartel

"We don't use the natural world, we have a reciprocal relationship with it." Hey everybody, this week we're speaking about a combination of two of my favourite topics: Nature and Therapy. I'm speaking with Dr. Megan Delaney. Megan holds a PhD in Counselor Education from Montclair State University (MSU) and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Monmouth University (MU) in Long Branch, New Jersey. Her research explores the influence of natural world on our mental health and the use of Ecotherapy in clinical practice and the counselor education classroom. Trained in outdoor leadership through the National Outdoor Leadership School, Megan spent several years as a wilderness instructor for organizations including the National Wildlife Federation and Outward Bound. Today she infuses Ecotherapy in her counseling classroom as well as her private practice. This was a wonderful deep dive into the world of Ecotherapy, and how nature can act as a co-facilitator in healing processes. I'm excited to hear how this one lands with you and as always am grateful that you're here! 👉 We explored a broad variety of topics such as: - The connection between the natural world, mental health and well-being - Immersive experiences in nature as a modality to reset our senses - Eco-therapy as a facilitatir for connection to nature and developing an ecological identity - Movement and bilateral stimulation in nature therapy can enhance the therapeutic process - Empirically studying ecotherapy poses challenges, but there is potential for developing a cognitive behavioral ecotherapy model - Megan's journey to Kenya as a transformative experience - The effects of teaching and witnessing the work of students and clients - Kindness, compassion, and active listening are essential qualities needed in the world, while materialism should be reduced 🎧 PODCAST: ▶️ Website ▶️ Spotify ▶️ Apple Podcasts ▶️ Google Podcasts ▶️ Amazon Podcasts 🔗 MY GUEST: ▶️ Homepage ▶️ Instagram 🙋‍♂️ MY STUFF: ▶️ Website ▶️ My creative agency ▶️ Instagram ▶️ LinkedIn ▶️ Michael Singer Weekly Talks ▶️ Michael Singer Podcast ▶️ Waking Up App (free month) ▶️ My book recommendations 📩 CONTACT: [email protected]
