Dr. Rickey Vincent: Why Are Black Artists Played but Not Paid? #blackhistory

from First Things First With Dominique DiPrima · host KBLA Talk 1580

Dr. Rickey Vincent is a scholar, educator, radio host and author. He obtained his Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies at UC Berkeley in 2008, and lectures on black music history, black power and social movements, the cultural politics of Hip Hop, and issues of African American culture and globalization. On this podcast we look at the irony that soul music is sampled, covered, used for marketing and revered worldwide but many of the artists cannot pay their bills, are forced to tour 'til the very end of their lives and are rarely honored in proportion to their contributions to the culture. https://africam.berkeley.edu/people/rickey-vincent https://www.facebook.com/rvincent1/ https://www.instagram.com/diprimaradio/
