He has an active research program at the University of Guelph focusing on infectious diseases, particularly those that can be transmitted between animals and people. Dr. Weese holds a Canada Research Chair in zoonotic diseases and has authored or co-authored over 200 papers in peer reviewed journals, edited two books, and is a sought-after speaker on the topic of infectious diseases. Dr. Weese is also a coordinator of the educational blog, Worms & Germs, published by University of Guelph Centre for Public Health & Zoonoses.
