It is very much prevalent in Western medical culture. It presents in insidious ways, such as the observed tendency for doctors to dismiss patients and pathologies in seniors due to old age; the severe lack of geriatric specialists in many provinces; and the fact that seniors spend less time talking to their physicians than any other age group.
