Dr. Tyrone Howard—Equity Now: Justice, Repair, and Belonging in Schools

Our guest, Dr. Tyrone Howard, is the Pritzker Family Endowed Chair in the School of Education and Information Studies at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is also the immediate past-president of the American Educational Research Association. Dr. Howard, profiles the significance of parent and caregiver engagement in educational equity and belonging, as outlined in his new book Equity Now: Justice, Repair, and Belonging in Schools. He stresses the significance of mindsets when addressing the needs of students, particularly those of cultures, conditions, and values different from those espoused by schools and individual educators. Dr. Howard suggests the need for a radical redesign of teacher education for greater equity and provides advise for those who advocate for educational equity.
