Dr. Wright Steps Down After 9-Year Leadership

After nine transformative years, Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright is stepping down in February 2027 — the second-longest tenure in district history. He turned around struggling schools, boosted reading scores above state averages with phonics-based instruction, and led the district through rapid growth, pandemic challenges, and tragedy. Under his leadership, student enrollment surged past 25,000, over $1.5 billion in bond projects were completed, and vital student support programs like the Clothes Closet and Hope2Go were launched. Known for his steady hand, transparency, and creative problem-solving, Wright will help the board find his successor and remain a voice for public education.
