(Note for listeners: This edition features text from Dracula (1897) by Bram Stoker, which is a free public domain work of literature available on Project Gutenberg.) Jonathan Harker realizes with horror that he is a helpless prisoner trapped inside Castle Dracula. As he observes the Count performing menial tasks around the castle, he realizes there are no servants present and that Dracula himself was the mysterious coach driver who controlled the wolves. After a long late-night discussion about Transylvanian history and shipping logistics for England, Dracula warns Jonathan never to sleep in any other part of the castle. Disobeying this warning, Jonathan falls asleep in a long-abandoned wing, where he experiences a terrifying encounter with three seductive vampire women before Count Dracula furiously intervenes. This episode is ideal for practicing English listening comprehension, building classic vocabulary, and immersing yourself in authentic Victorian literature.
