The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila who is due to step down after 17 years in power. He says his top priority is to ensure that elections run smoothly on the 23rd of December. Meanwhile, the European Union has prolonged sanctions against the man Kabila has chosen to be his successor. Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary continues to have his asset frozen and a travel ban in Europe.
