Dream a dream: Doctor Who and Autism helps your confidence - With actor Sophie

from Crohn's and Autism Awareness Advocate · host Mason Milne

Today I am joined with Sophie who was diagnosed with Autism when she was 11 in 2017. Sophie shares her experience with Autism and mainstream school. we share with each other about getting bullied and how it can be hard to tell someone what's happening. Sophie talks about acting, about she would like to go into theatre and the dream of playing a companion in Doctor Who. We talk about hyperfixations and how Autism and Doctor who relates to one another. We talk about the good and bad of non Autistic playing a character who autistic in a series/film we say a good one to watch is the good doctor! Sophie says if she didn't actor and wasn't an actor, she wouldn't have the confidence to do a podcast. Sophie asked him is a special school for everyone who is autistic ? I replied it's not for everyone because each person is different but it's great if you haven't experienced a good support system at your school, but it does help a lot! Sophie gives some also advise for the Autistic community and gives a quote from Doctor Who relates to it's down below... From the episode "The Husbands of River Song" - Happily ever after doesn't mean forever it just means time a little time.   Such a meaningful quote right there!  We also talk about how it's good the show is diverse Doctor Who and the podcast I mean this whole series is something new we haven't tried anything like this before I love the show, and to have other people who have autism and also crohn's it's amazing, the series is kept diverse because i educate others as not every one on the series is Autistic gives people an insight on it and mixes it up too.  We also talk about Igbtq and pride which is a community Sophie is part of and which goes back to what I was saying about being diverse, i have had other people for the Igbtq community and this is why I love my show people around the world talking about impactful topics! I hope you enjoy the episode and will see you on the next one, Thank you again Sophie!
