Drifted
from Poetry by Tim Windisch · host Tim Windisch
Drifted Attended parochial school, from a small town growing The sixties push for expansion was just now showing We were taught black and white but me I dreamt of florals Looking back what a laugh, you know you can keep your morals Pulled from the ashes of the bad memories, some smiles are sifted Yeah, I was headed to become one of the pack, but I guess I just drifted Listen any evening to pointed uninformed alcohol induced barstool talk And you can hear memorized Fox rhetoric dripping, stumbling to walk From the good old boys who cling tightly to a past where they ruled Now they’re leading the way for the right hoping everyone is fooled Who remembers past discretions, can’t you see the boy is gifted? Rode the back of your Skidoo down the trails with you but I just drifted I see the floral from when I was a boy, dreaming of pretty pictures Different sounds from distant ends and I sit and marvel at the mixtures You no longer listen or learn, closed your mind and you just hit repeat Stopped growing, stopped hearing, man your opinions are incomplete Open your mind again my friend, what’s fallen can once again be lifted Maybe it wasn’t me who left the path, yeah maybe you’re the one who drifted Yeah, I said maybe I wasn’t wrong after all, yeah maybe you’re the one who drifted Tim Windisch 03/02/2023
