from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Police say the driver killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Haverford Township Saturday afternoon had his license revoked for medical reasons. Officials have identified the driver as 57-year-old John Ryan, of Havertown. Investigators believe Ryan may have suffered a medical emergency while driving erratically along West Chester Pike. The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. between Darby and Eagle roads. Police say Ryan’s pickup sideswiped several cars before slamming into a U-Haul truck. Fourteen vehicles were involved, and the crash scene stretched about 2 miles. Ryan died, and eight other people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
