Drop-in Session with Starover Blue & The Eldest Young

from Portland Radio Project · host Portland Radio Project

Not one, but TWO local artists chatted with Jenna D of Theme for a Tuesday about their upcoming release party this Wednesday, the 26th at the Holocene! We’re talking about good friends Kendall Sallay-Milotz, lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of dream-pop band Starover Blue, and Stephen Young, lead singer/songwriter for experimental indie rockers The Eldest Young. Each artist is releasing a single, and an album respectively. Book of Spells, the latest full-length release from The Eldest Young, is a concept album. With spooky vibes that are just perfect for the Halloween season. In this interview, we hear “Brand New Heart,” which chronicles a young man’s search for meaning and love. Young also talks about some of the talented artists that also play on the album, and which famous PDX musician happens to be the owner of the studio they recorded in. We also hear Starover Blue’s newest single entitled, “Larkspur,” which is inspired by a close friend and collaborator of Sallay-Milotz, Dominic Miranda, who recently passed away. The track is a portrait of an individual who never seemed to fit in, and is ultimately a reminder to see them and to be kind. To close out on a happier note, it is all about cake. Young’s business Karat Cake, to be exact, where the funds are sent towards various humanitarian causes. Fun fact: At this specific concert, all of the merchandise proceeds will go towards The Center for Human Rights in Iran.
