DrunkCast Q & A #1 | MTFP Ep.16

from The More Than Fitness Podcast With Matt McLeod · host Matt McLeod

I needed an excuse to drink on a random Tuesday night, so I decided doing a drunken Q & A sounded fun ⏤ and it was. I asked my audience to give me their best questions on training, nutrition, life, and more, and they delivered. I, however, did exactly how I thought I would: kinda okay. Most answers were fine, but keep an ear out for more slurring and errors as the podcast goes on. I had fun doing it and if the response is good, I'll do more. Hope you enjoy! QUESTION TIMESTAMPS: (1:54) I’ve been reading up about Stoicism as you know. One of the themes is around discipline over motivation. Do you think motivation is short-term? And how do you just get shit done? (7:07) What's one piece of advice that has stuck with you for years and you'll always remember? Can be about anything- life, fitness, nutrition, etc. (10:45) Do you think Instagram is a time-waster? Where do you draw the line? (14:09) When you decided to join the fitness industry, did you ever feel apprehensive about not pursuing a "regular job" that could provide the assurance of financial security? What should people do if faced with a similar question? (19:00) Why do people purposefully arch their back in what looks like a very uncomfortable manner when they do bench press? (20:06) My problem is that I have become so ingrained with "progressive overload," that I think I have to constantly increase the weight, reps, or sets every single session. I feel like if I am not able to hit 5-10lbs more on my DL from last week, then the workout is a failure. This has lead me to often get extremely anxious/nervous. I want to keep making progress and push myself but I'm not sure this is the most effective approach. (23:26) What are you currently drinking and is that your go-to drink? (24:39) If you could get $100M by gaining 100 lbs, but you had to stay at that weight forever, would you do it? (25:12) How do you approach training/nutrition following a significant injury/surgery? I had ankle surgery 7 weeks ago, I couldn’t put any weight on it for 6 weeks and now able to slowly transition to weight-bearing with a boot on. How do you adjust training/nutrition now that I’m able to get back into things? (30:25) How many 1st graders could you take in a fight? (32:07) You just joined the team from The Fast and The Furious. What is your car of choice? (32:53) What can someone do to make you automatically think “I don’t like this person”? (34:21) What’s the best way to move on from mistakes? In life or fitness. (36:42) Do you think by doing a podcast, you’re able to speak/communicate better than before? (39:54) If lifting 3x per week, is full-body a good option?
