Dr. Dot. The daily five minute skill devotion. For everyone who's simply dotting about an accent.
How do you and welcome to the Dr. Dot Podcast. My name is Sean and in today's skill. Well, basically we're going to protect you, your family and your home.
Yes, or by using a skill. Hmm, probably. The skill is burglar deterrent. Now this is a revisit.
We last looked at this skill way back in episode 566. But as ever, this is my first time using the skill. So let's jump into it. Hello.
Open burglar deterrent. Welcome to burglar deterrent. Here's a quick reminder for even more realistic sounds. Just ask for real-time mode at any time.
Would you like to start barking dog sounds again? No. Okay, just say the sound you want. Ask me to name the options or enable real-time mode.
Name options. You can choose between nine different basic sounds. Apart from that, burglar deterrent now also has a real-time mode. This adds realism by playing sounds at appropriate times, such as dogs barking during the day and people watching TV overnight.
If you want to hear more on the real-time sounds, just ask me at any time. Or check out the info in your Alexa app. Here are the first three basic sounds. Living room.
Kitchen. Barking dog. Would you like one of those or another one? Another one.
Here are three more. Home office. Bathroom. Garage.
Would you like one of those or another one? Bathroom. What can it be? Would you like to start bathroom with activity level high and with background music off?
Yes. Starting bathroom with activity level high and background music off. To change sounds say Alexa go back, to finish say Alexa stop. Uh oh.
That's enough. I'll stop. Okay. I've stopped burglar deterrent.
Welcome home. Okay. So that's pretty cool right? Slightly weird.
I'll grab you but it's cool. I've got to say this skill really comes into its own when you use it as part of a routine. I'll show you. First thing we need to do is open up the Lady A app.
And when you do, tap on the more button in the bottom right hand corner. More. Now tap on routines and tap on add in the top right hand corner. Routines.
Add new button. And here we are in a new routine. It's empty so let's fill it out. Enter routine name.
First thing to do is give it a name. I'm going to call it alarm test. When this happens X. Okay.
The next thing we need to choose is when will this routine run? What triggers it? And there's a few things you can choose from. You can have a custom voice command or a schedule or when it detects sound.
But I'm going to choose a smart home device. Choose device. Front garden button. Nope.
Not that one. Back garden button. No. Front door button.
That's what I want. My front door bell. And I'm going to set the trigger to be when it detects any motion at my front door. When front door detects motion.
That's good. Now tap on next in the top right hand corner. And then. Attached next.
We're nearly done. The last thing we need to do is add the action. What do we want it to do? There's lots of options here but we're going to choose the one right at the top.
Which is. Customize for more actions. Type in what you would ask Alexa to do. So now I'm just going to type.
Tell burglar deterrent. Play barking dog. Then tap on next. From.
And lastly we choose which speaker we want to play this skill from. Choose device. Sean's fire TV speaker. No studio speaker.
That is the studio speaker right here. Tap on that. And we're done. Tap save in the top right corner.
Routine created successfully. Okay. We made it. Now let's test it out.
See there. Motion detected at the front door. Dang shit. I'll stop.
Okay. I stopped. I did it. Welcome home.
So there you have it. That was burglar deterrent. Why not give it a go? Thank you.
