Du Quoin Fire Devastates Downtown | St. Louis News

A massive fire tore through downtown Du Quoin, Illinois, engulfing the Home Lumber Company and rapidly spreading to nearby businesses—though miraculously no one was injured. Fire crews battled flames that forced them to tap water from the fairgrounds and lake, shut off utilities, and work into Thursday. Authorities including the state fire marshal and ATF are investigating the blaze as a serious incident, with a minor flare-up overnight still leaving smoke in the air. Mayor Josh Downs has urged residents to avoid Main Street while the investigation continues, as the community reels from the damage to local businesses and infrastructure.
