Dual Professional Athlete | AFL Player Melbourne Demons | Former Professional Cricketer

from The Business of Sport by Sportsfinda · host Sportsfinda Inc

Guy started his professional athletic career as a cricketer playing five years for the Victorian Bushrangers, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades, having signed his first professional contract at just 17. Many professional athlete careers are interrupted by injuries, which Guy has experienced, with multiple back injuries and shoulder surgeries. At these times Guy focused on his rehabilitation and desire to get back to playing the game he loved. After losing his cricket contract due to long term injury, which was unsustainable for a fast bowler, Guy successfully moved codes to secure a contract with the Melbourne Demons. The ability to move codes is a testament to the perseverance and character Guy upholds himself to, and his desire to be a professional athlete despite a challenging career which has been so heavily influenced by injury. However, he also saw the opportunity in using his periods of rehabilitation to acquire new professional career skills outside of sport, including working for the Channel 7 social media team, and as a broadcaster on sports radio. Having enjoyed both of these experiences, he knows that post his playing career, he will leverage his experiences as a professional athlete and the professional skills he’s already acquired to seek new opportunities.
