from Honolulu News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Duane Preble, the legendary art educator who shaped generations of students and Hawaii’s cultural scene, passed away at 90. A beloved professor emeritus at UH-Manoa and longtime trustee of the Honolulu Museum of Art, he transformed how people see art through his iconic textbook “Prebles’ Artforms,” now in its 13th edition. Known for his captivating lectures that drew crowds—even non-students—to the Varsity Theater, he also founded the photography program, led figure drawing sessions, and helped organize a festival that featured a surprise Jimi Hendrix performance. A man of many talents, he even played washtub bass in the Kapakahi Jug Band. His mentorship profoundly influenced artists like Kahi Ching, and he was honored with the Hawai‘i Arts Alliance 2020 Preis Honor. Preble is survived by his wife, two children, and three grandchildren. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
