On May 1, 2023, a small airplane took off from Araracuara Airport in Colombia. There were 7 on the flight in total. The pilot, Hernando Murcia Morales,Yarupari leader Herman Mendoza Hernadez, Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia and her four children. Shortly after that, there was radio silence and the plane could not be contacted. The children were missing for 40 days and their grandmother spoke of duendes carrying them through the jungle.
