Durham Votes to Combat Gun Violence | Durham News

Durham County commissioners just unanimously approved a bold new plan to combat rising gun violence, prioritizing prevention, intervention, and community voices—especially from those who’ve lived through it. Residents like Kalilah Donald stress that real solutions come from listening to survivors and reaching youth early through education. The strategy targets high-risk individuals, expands street outreach, focuses on hotspots, and integrates trauma-informed care—with a Youth Summit planned to empower young people. This comes amid troubling data: violent crime up 4% this year, even as homicides dip, underscored by the tragic death of Victoria James and her children in a recent shooting. The vote marks a critical step toward safer streets and deeper healing for Durham’s communities. Listen in comfort: Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
