Dust Cast Four: NBA Lockout

Transcript of Show Hello and welcome to episode four of Dust Cast. I'm dustdaughter. It's funny. I started this show because I wanted to rant about the fuckery that I perceived to be going on in DC's new 52. I still haven't done that rant yet and I won't get to it this week either. See news just came out that NBA players and owners have reached a tentative labor agreement and I need to talk about that for a minute. According to ESPN.com, the owners have made some concessions finally and the players are giving the owners 49 percent of their BRI (Basketball Related Income). So now we might get some professional ball by Christmas Day. So let me get this straight. The reason that the players didn't agree to the deal set before them earlier this month (around Nov. 14) was because the owners wanted 49 to 51 percent of their BRI. Now the players are just gonna give the owners half their income so they can play ball again? Huh. And to all the people who think the greedy players are the ones keeping them from seeing pro bball again, what do you think about the owners? Is it fair or right for the owners to keep their whole cake and get about half of the players' dessert as well? If you do, I just don't know what to tell you except, K But U're Wrong Doe. Look, IMO, this is a bad deal for players. But they want to work, they're not going to be in this kind of shape forever and this year's draft picks are looking to get paid. These folks have families to take care of just like you and me. Not to mention all the industries surrounding the sport that have been suffering during this lockout. So yeah, I'm glad that the lockout might be over soon. And I'm looking forward to seeing the MVP and some of my other favorite players do their thing. But I won't be surprised if both parties end up back at the negotiation table sometime real soon. This isn't the kind of deal that's going to sit well with anyone a few months from now.
