Dusty Blake is the Pitching Coach at Duke University, a Division I program in Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from Appalachian University in 2003 and soon after began his coaching career at Pfeiffer University as the Outfield Coach from 2004-2005. From 2006-2007 he was the Pitching Coach at Catawba College and from 2008-2011 he was the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Wofford College. Next, in 2012 he was the Pitching Coach at USC Upstate University and then returned to Pfeiffer University as the Head Coach from 2013-2017. In December of 2017 he was on at Duke University as their Pitching Coach, where he still remains. In this podcast, we start off talking about his quick transition from being a Head Coach at Division II, Pfeiffer University to Pitching Coach at Division I, Duke University. We than dive into baseballs transition to using data and analytics and how Coach Blake believes this is affecting the game. Coach Blake also explains which points of data he believes is the most useful to him when coaching his pitchers as well as which points are not as relevant. We than dive into the art of creating movement and how a players’ specific arm slot can affect that.
