Duval School Board Race Heats Up | Jacksonville News

A heated, high-stakes race for Duval School Board District 6 is heating up—with over $208,000 raised and five candidates vying for the seat, three of them Republicans pushing conservative agendas on discipline and curriculum. As term-limited Chair Charlotte Joyce exits to run for City Council, the district has shifted demographically, with Democrats now outnumbering Republicans and white voters dropping to 47%. With Governor DeSantis staying neutral and Moms for Liberty silent, the race is shaped by real-world concerns: safety, trust, and fiscal responsibility. Lindsey Denmark, Clarence James, Michelle Petty, and Robert Stafford each bring unique angles—from restoring parental confidence to tackling school violence and managing construction costs—while Tammyette Thomas remains unresponsive. Voters in Districts 2, 4, and 6 will decide the winner on August 18th, or if no one hits 50%, a November runoff will decide the future of this pivotal school board seat.
