In this sermon, Peter Lenehan reflects on the overwhelming greatness and supremacy of Jesus Christ, drawing from Job 38 and Colossians 1:15–23. By contrasting the vastness of creation with human smallness, Peter invites listeners to recover a biblical sense of awe before God. He explains that Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the supreme ruler over all creation, the one through whom and for whom all things were made, and the one who sustains the universe. At the same time, this infinitely powerful Christ humbly entered creation, suffered on the cross, and reconciled sinners to God through His blood. Peter calls the church to respond not with indifference or entitlement, but with worship, perseverance in faith, and lives centred on Christ’s purpose, continuing firmly in the hope of the gospel. 5 Questions to Think About How does God’s speech in Job 38 challenge your view of your own importance and control? What “spiritual billboards” (people, places, or practices) help you remain established and firm in your faith? 3 Things to Take Away from the Message Jesus is supreme over all creation — He is the creator, sustainer, and rightful ruler of everything (Colossians 1:15–17). The supreme Christ chose humility and the cross — The one who made the universe reconciled sinners to God through His death (Colossians 1:19–22). The right response to Christ is awe-filled worship and perseverance — A true faith continues, remains grounded, and lives for Jesus’ purposes (Colossians 1:23).
