Event details are below: When: Saturday, June 17, 2017, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. MST Where: Memorial Library, 2nd Floor, 1212 2nd Street SW, Calgary Speakers will include: Salimah Walji-Shivji LLB, MSW, General Counsel & Chief Client Engagement Officer, AgeCare Jan Lackie, an advocate whose father, Ian, received a legally assisted death in the province of British Columbia in the summer of 2016 Background: The Supreme Court’s historic 2015 ruling in Carter v. Canada sent Canada on a path toward the legalization of medically assisted dying. Now, a year after Parliament passed Bill C-14, the federal Liberals’ controversial assisted dying law, the province of Alberta has laid the framework to ensure patients can access compassionate high quality care, while ensuring staff and physicians can provide services within the law.
