Media Lies, The Chilling Reality of Firearm Safety, and the Real Cost of Podcasts | Dylan Ervin

Episode 34: Dylan Ervin - Inventor of StopBox on Responsible Gun Ownership, Innovation, and Family SafetyIn this powerful episode of the Shawn Johnson Podcast, I sit down with Dylan Ervin, the innovative founder and CEO of StopBox USA. Dylan is not only a master-level competitive shooter in USPSA, but also a devoted husband, father, filmmaker, and entrepreneur who's revolutionizing firearm safety. Born from his own experiences as a gun owner and parent, Dylan invented the StopBox – a completely mechanical, instant-access handgun retention device that requires no batteries, electronics, or keys. Using a unique hand gesture code lock, it allows responsible adults to secure their firearms quickly while ensuring instant access in emergencies – all while keeping them out of reach from children or unauthorized hands. We dive deep into Dylan's journey: from conceptualizing the StopBox over a decade ago to building a family-run company in Spokane, Washington, where they proudly manufacture American-made products. He shares eye-opening insights on the importance of "in-between" storage for handguns (when not holstered or in a full safe), the risks of traditional electronic safes failing under stress, and why child-proofing firearms is more critical than ever.As a fellow parent, this conversation hit home – we talk about balancing self-defense readiness with family safety, the realities of raising kids in a world with firearms, and how innovation can save lives. Dylan opens up about some of the most tear-jerking success stories of lives saved with his products. We also discuss Antifa and NW issues that have serious implications for gun owners in that part of the country. Whether you're a gun owner, parent, or just interested in smart safety solutions, this episode is packed with practical wisdom, inspiring stories, and thoughtful discussion on responsible ownership.
