Dylan's Story

Dylan is 24 and lives in Bolton North East, one of England's most deprived constituencies. He wants to train as a nurse to serve his community's healthcare needs, but can't access the training he needs. NHS workforce planning in the North West has failed to match training places to local demand. Health Education England's budget was constrained by Treasury spending limits that treat public investment as a cost to be minimised rather than as the means by which trained nurses reach the wards that need them. The training places existed. The people who wanted to fill them existed. What was missing was a government willing to fund them properly. This episode explores how Westminster's political choices block healthcare careers in working-class communities. Blocked Britain is produced independently and receives no government funding.
