E027 – The Data Quadrant

from For the Love of Data

My guest in today’s episode is Ronald Damhof (@ronalddamhof), the creator of the Data Quadrant. This quadrant is a sense-making framework in the complex word of data that enables a common frame of reference between managers, domain experts and engineers. This model is used by many organisations to formulate data strategy and justify investments in the data domain. It is used as the strategic underpinning for a data architecture, it guides the ‘rules of the game’ and it separates the fundamental concerns in data. Furthermore, it explains how an organisation can toggle the need to innovate with data and the need to deploy and use data at scale, repeatedly, safe, lawful, with constant quality and robust.     Topics: Ronald background as a “data fundamentalist” His concept of a full scale data architect The push / pull point, from 1950s Toyota, applied to data Development styles from systemic to opportunistic Data Vault’s influence on the quadrant Where data modelling (Q1) and data lakes (Q3) fit into the quadrants Where should you start?
