E039 Brigitte Dzogbenuku #WisdomPersonified, conversations with Dudu Msomi

from Wisdom Personified - Conversations with Dudu Msomi · host Dudu Msomi

There is a quote by Avijeet Das, “There are moments in our lives when we meet someone, and we feel as if we have known them all our lives.” That is how I felt the first time I met Brigitte Dzogbenuku. Brig, as we commonly call her, is the Founder and Executive Director of Mentoring Women Ghana amongst other roles she has. A former Miss Ghana, a mother of one precious son and Ghanaian #Presidential candidate of the Progressive Peoples’ Party in 2020. You can undermine her at your own peril, but ignoring her, impossible. Brig says her Achilles Heel is that she is very impatient. She expects results quickly. However, when I watch her foray into politics and the long journey, she knows is at hand for patriarchal societies to see the value #women can bring into leadership positions, I differ with her self-image. The issues she tackles set a foundation for an equal and equitable world such as mentoring programmes for women and now also working on the ambition to set up an Institute to formalise, dignify and train domestic workers in Ghana. Even though she has strong views on issues, she is refreshingly an empathetic listener who is generous in recognising women who have mentored and inspired her life journey such as Ms Wendy Luhabe from South Africa. She quotes Shirley Chisholm, who was an American politician who became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress 1969 to 1983 who said, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair”. Oh, and Brigitte does do that. Hope you enjoy this #African Powerhouse from the Gold Coast, #Ghana, and you are inspired by our conversation. #MentoringWomen #BrigitteDzogbenuku #DuduMsomi #ProgressivePeoplesParty #Leadership #Empathy
