Welcome to 7-Minutes on 8 on the Switch, Paper and Quip Podcast. I'm your host, Ayana Angel, and we are going to spend the next seven minutes together, getting you filled up with inspiration and goodness to get your mind primed to achieve greatness as you enter the week ahead. So today, we are going to be talking about weaknesses and strengths. So I have a little entry here from the 365 inspirations for the soul of the side hustler and entrepreneur book that I go ahead and read for you guys.

Super simple, super quick, and it says, don't waddle in your weakness. Play to your strengths. Now, so many of us spend time thinking of the things that we are not good at in order to feel like we can compete in certain areas and certain respects. What we are thinking about trying to get a new job, we are like, oh, I don't fit these requirements.

I need to brush up on these skills. I need to enhance these skills so that I can really compete for that position that I want. We think, oh, someone's so much better at doing this versus how I do it or what my capabilities are. So, oh, I need to get better.

But the reality is that we all have our strengths and we all have our weaknesses. The key thing for us to do in order to number one, enhance your feeling of self-worth in order to enhance how you perceive yourself in the marketplace of, let's say, professionalism in order to make sure that you feel your most confident. You have to understand your strengths and you have to be confident in those strengths. And the weaknesses, it's like, look, they may be there, they're there for all of us, right?

But those aren't the things that we need to focus on. We need to focus on the strengths so that we can continue to build ourselves up to make us feel better, be better, compete better. And when I say compete, I use that word loosely because when I say compete, it's more so just about the way that you show up in this world, in this larger game of life. But your weaknesses are not something that I, whatever suggests that you focus on.

It's okay to be aware of them. That's great to be aware of them. But to focus on them, to dwell on them, to really allow yourself to get upset about them, is waste of time and energy. Absolutely waste of time and energy.

It is so much better for you to play to your strengths. And now your some people say, double down on your strengths. That's up to you if you wanna double down on your strengths. But when you understand your strengths and you really allow your strengths to come to the forefront and you play up those strengths, you become a better candidate in everything that you do.

Everything that you do, wear it matters, wear those strengths matter. Because what happens is you can outshine the rest and your conference level is at a 10. It's at an all-time time because you know you got this. Now if you're thinking to yourself, wear all my strengths, I don't know what my strengths are.

What are you good at? What are you known for? What do people constantly comment and remark on about you? Is it that your great researcher?

Your great with certain programs? Is it that your great problem solver? Is it that you articulate your thoughts very well? Is it that you communicate ideas?

Or are you ideas very well? Is it that you retain information exceptionally well? There's all these different small things that can be your strengths that you can really build on and make them have a larger impact than you could even ever imagine. Even when you're talking about the workplace, when you're talking about the workplace and you're talking about how do you compete?

How do you shine? How do you show up so that you can get that promotion? How do you show up so that your coworkers or senior management will notice you can see your skillsets? Figure out your strengths and play to those strengths.

Make sure that people are seeing you and your strengths shine so that you become unforgettable and so do your strengths. You also want to set yourself up in a way that people know you for those strengths. Like for example, in my previous career in publicity, I was known to write things that were creative. Because I started building those strengths, I started playing to those strengths, I started allowing people to really know what those strengths were so that they could then tap those strengths.

And then that becomes an asset. Your strengths can become an asset for you. And what can you do with assets? You can use them continuously forever.

They work for you in your favor. Instead of working against you and they're sellable. And what I mean by sellable is you can take those assets and those strengths and sell yourself in other capacities to other people because of those strengths and those assets. When you're looking through job new opportunities, you might see, oh, it requires someone with excellent attention to detail.

If you are known as being a person who has excellent attention to detail, you can then sell that as your strengths. That is something that you can exemplify in everything that you do. You can have people that write letters of recommendation for you based off of that strength, that skill, that asset alone. So really work with these strengths when you figure out where they are.

Keep working on them, keep improving on them. Even if you're strong at something and you know that you're strong at it, you can still go and take classes to enhance those skills. You can still go and seek information and tools that will help you enhance those skills just to be even better. Just to make you shine even more.

Why not? When do you think actors do when they reach the peak of their game? You think they just sit by, kick their feet up and relax? No, they're always improving.

The great ones are always improving, always getting extra knowledge, always getting better, always finding ways to really hone in on your craft even more. So that's exactly what you want to do. You want to figure out what your strengths are and you want to play those strengths. You want to enhance those strengths.

You want to make those strengths shine. So that those strengths will make you shine. So trust yourself and you'll eventually turn all of your strengths into gold and your weaknesses will be overshadowed. You won't really have to worry about them.

You won't have to talk to them or speak to them because you find other people specific up in areas where you're weak because your strengths shine so right. So I hope this has been valuable for you in terms of something for you to think about, something for you to help bolster yourself in this challenging world that we live in when it comes to just making yourself the best that you can be and allowing yourself to shine and making yourself shine. So thank you again for hanging out with me on this seven minutes Sunday. I hope that you have an awesome week this week.

I hope you go out there and shine. I hope you go out there really hone in on those strengths and really show up and show out. And until next week, keep yelling at it.

Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”).
