E12. A wellbeing science repository for government, business, and community | Nancy Hey
from Researching Happy · host Matthew Iasiello
Support the show at researchinghappy.locals.com This week’s guest is Nancy Hey, Executive Director of the ‘What Works Wellbeing’ centre in the UK, an independent body for wellbeing evidence, policy and practice. They collect well-being data, analyse it, and aim to communicate it to the public and make it consistent, robust, usable and accessible. Nancy talks about the process for creating a centre which tries to bring together different perspectives on wellbeing from many disciplines and have them speak a consistent language around what they can do to improve wellbeing. She discusses the difficulties around doing this in a setting where everyone is interested in wellbeing but it’s nobody’s core focus. Nancy talks us through why the quality of the research they are collecting is more important than quantity, and how she is attempting to combat the misconceptions that often occur around what is being measured and passed off as wellbeing measurement. She outlines some of the success stories of the centre, and we have some fun pondering the potential for research that looks into the wellbeing of sporting fans with their teams’ wins and losses.
