E15: Visual Impairment and Occupational Therapy

from HealthMatters · host Karen Jacobs

This episode provides a conversation with Jennifer Kaldenberg ([email protected]), Clinical Assistant Professor and Level II Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Sargent College. As a visual impairment expert, Professor Kaldenberg shared stories behind her academic interest. Professor Kaldenberg educates optometrists and optometry students on the functional implications of vision loss, as well as teaches the role of OT in vision rehabilitation. She has earned Specialty Certification in Low Vision from the American Occupational Therapy Association. Prior to her specialization in vision impairment, Kaldenberg worked in inpatient rehabilitation with clinical experience in a wide variety of conditions, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological and orthopedic diagnoses. About Entry-level OTD Level II Fieldwork: LIIFW provides students with an in-depth, supervised experience in delivering occupational therapy services to clients, focusing on the application of meaningful occupation and research, administration, and management of occupational therapy services. It is recommended that each student gain exposure to a variety of clients across the lifespan and to a variety of settings. Exposure to client populations is generally categorized by settings that serve individuals across the lifespan, including children (pediatrics) and adults with mental health/psychiatric needs or physical disabilities. The moderator of the podcast is Dr. Karen Jacobs ([email protected]), who is the Associate Dean, Digital Learning and Innovation, a Clinical Professor and the Program Director for the on-line post-professional doctorate in the occupational therapy program at Sargent College. Marial Williams ([email protected]), a Boston University entry-level occupational therapy doctoral student, composed the music for the podcast.
