E16: Go Grow Garlic

from Homestead Gardening: A Modern Approach Hosted by Spencer

I used to think growing long cool season crops like garlic was impossible in the Texas Gulf Coast. It's actually a really simple process! I even have a nice, short visual aid I pair with this podcast on my YouTube channel. So what's the key to my growing success? Start planning your future garlic crop right after it's time to harvest - in the heat of summer! Whether you are a seasoned gardener new to the Gulf Coast or just starting out, this podcast is designed to re-train your brain to understand how gardening is different in the gulf coast than other areas. Most gardening activities always seemed to happen in spring in cooler climates, but with 12-months of growing in Houston and lots of heat, Gulf Coast Gardeners must be clever and deliberate when planting. To really have 12-months of food, too, we also have to consider the possibility that we will have overlapping crops to achieve our goals.
