She wrote a critically acclaimed book about social connection and health, THE RABBIT EFFECT: Live Longer, Happier, and Healthier with the Groundbreaking Science of Kindness (Atria Books, Fall 2019; Paperback, Fall 2020).    As a medical doctor, she believes everybody deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and kindness while receiving the best evidence-based medical care. You deserve to feel better and enjoy life no matter what the challenge. Board-certified in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic (mind-body) Medicine, she trained in psychiatry and research at Columbia University, where she continues to teach. She also has a degree in public health from Columbia University.  All her years of education and research have taught her that the best care comes down to treating every person with kindness. In addition to clinical care, she often speaks with organizations, schools, and community groups to help foster cultures of kindness and positive social connection.
