E348 - Conor McGregor's Comeback Answered Nothing

from The Fight Library Hosted by Blaine Henry

Conor McGregor is done. There's nothing left. After injuring his leg in the pathetic performance that was against Max Holloway, we have to have the uncomfortable conversation: what's next for both? It's not really his fault he got hurt. We can't blame him for it. But it is rather unfortunate. We all hoped for a fun fight with Max Holloway at UFC 329. Instead we were treated to 30 seconds of letdown. Max Holloway has a future. Conor McGregor? Done. If he fights again, it's purely selfish at this point. Paddy Pimblett was the biggest winner at UFC 329. A sub-minute sub of Benoit Saint-Denis put him on stage as the biggest fighter in the UFC. Paddy Pimblett, now he has some options. Max Holloway is one, of course. So is Ilia Topuria, a Justin Gaethje rematch, or Charles Oliveira. Whoever it is, they'll likely have to do it in front of a crowd that is vastly pro Paddy Pimblett. Cory Sandhagen's title hopes seem to be done. No disrespect to Mario Bautista. Mario Bautista is very good. But soon to be 35, Cory Sandhagen will never find his way back to a title shot. His one chance gone. Mario Bautista did great hurting Sandhagen early, hindering his movement for the rest of the fight. Despite falling behind in round 2, Mario Bautista showed up in round three and dominated. Brandon Royval continues to be the toughest fight for everyone at flyweight. He's long, active, insanely tough, and just plain stubborn. Lone'er Kavanagh found out the hard way. After knocking him down, Lone'er Kavanagh thought he had Brandon Royval on the ropes. Sike! Brandon Royval managed to stay in the fight despite being hurt, take the back of Lone'er Kavanagh late in the third, and sink in the choke. UFC 329 delivered from beginning to end. King Green survived an early onslaught of Terrance McKinney. Gable Steveson made his UFC debut. Robert Whittaker knocked out Nikita Krylov in his light heavyweight debut. What's not to love? Aside from the main event, UFC 329 delivered. #mmapodcast #ufcpodcast #conormcgregor
