It was about a month ago where Melanie Ruelas first posted about her childhood and growing up in a trailer. Up until then, it was something she was embarrassed about and never discussed. As a young girl, she was one of six living in a trailer. At 16, she was a high-school student carrying a backpack and a baby. At 19, she was a bank teller and single mom of two, a college student and on her own. Today, she accepts who she is.We talked about growing up in a trailer, feeling embarrassed of her upbringing, embracing life, the impact of sharing our struggles, transformation and figuring herself out, the life timeline of when and who we are supposed to be, outgrowing relationships, single-mom life with three kids, fighting over money and budgeting, serving as a volunteer firefighter, online dating, showing up and being present, going outside your comfort zone, age and awareness, baptism and the risk of posting religion, self-care, marriage of one and losing yourself, boundaries and reflection. We all have our trailer stories. What Melanie doesn’t have is phone notifications. She chooses to be available to herself first and she chooses happiness. You will always catch her wearing a smile and loving herself.
