Send us Fan MailHistory of Lake Linearhttps://newsone.com/4185919/lake-lanier-black-city-oscarville/ One of the most significant impacts of the construction was the flooding of historic African American communities. The Corps purchased land, which included farms, homes, and even cemeteries, to make room for the water. For many residents, this marked a major disruption in their lives, as their heritage and ancestral lands were lost, and they were forced to resettle elsewhere. The submerged towns and communities, particularly in the southern part of the lake, remain an important but often overlooked part of the lake’s history.
